Do I understand my words and deeds will be judged?

Before we begin today, I want to encourage you! Because tomorrow is a national holiday when most in America will gather with family and friends to give thanks, let me ask you dear ones, what are you thankful for?

Do you remember one of our Cross References on how to ‘consider it all joy‘ was to give thanks IN everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus, (1Th 5:18)? Did you begin that list about God, when we saw what we should know about Him; that He gives wisdom generously and without reproach; He does not tempt us, but gives every perfect gift from above? We have seen much about His goodness and faithfulness! You might go back and rehearse everything God has done for you, and continues to do for you. Why would you not be grateful and give thanks to Him?

I want you all to know that we at You Discover Truth “give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers; constantly bearing in mind your work of faith, and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father;” (1Th 1:2-3). Truly, Thank you. Have a glorious day tomorrow!

Okay… Let’s meet with God and hear what He has to say to us today!

Yesterday

We focused in on the seriousness of showing partiality in contrast to fulfilling the royal law.

Today

In the context of partiality, we want to LOOK at being judged by the law of liberty.

Let’s Pray

LORD, we continue to echo our prayer, asking that you teach us Your Truths. Not only quiet our hearts but show each one of us our hearts. Is there anything that would hinder us from hearing You speak today? May we deal with it. Give us ears to hear, and give us the understanding we need to walk in the light of what You reveal to us.

We are to speak and act as those who are to be judged. (Jam 2:12)

Why?

Because we will be judged

What will we be judged by?

By the law of liberty, God’s Word(Jam 2:12)

What is James comparing?

Speak and so act as those who are to be judged (Jam 2:12).

How does James sum this paragraph up?

In other words, what is the Term of Conclusion?

The Law of Liberty

Hear God Speak!

Remember when you read any verse, you are engaging with God.

As He speaks, think and reason, asking the 5W’s and H.

LISTEN to God speak and consider how you will LIVE it out!

Let’s jump in!

1. We LOOKED at the law of liberty in (Jam 1:25; ), what is it, and what does it do?

We saw: the Old Testament law came by Moses; showing us our sin and need for a Savior; and is one of bondage.

We saw: the New Testament Word, came by Jesus; the gospel for salvation, that liberates.

We saw: It is a law of freedom, that is perfect because it saves us from sin and death.

2. What else can we learn about the law of liberty, God’s Word, the Truth?

a. We shall know the Truth, and be made free, no longer slaves to sin. (Joh 8:32-36)

b. Being free, through love, we serve one another. (Gal 5:1, 13)

LISTEN…

Do I turn my freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, justifying habitual sin?

Or, do I know the Truth, and understand I have been freed from bondage of unbelief and sin?

How has my freedom, through love, changed me?

Who am I serving? How am I serving them?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

3. Where is the law now?

The law is now on the inside.

No longer written on tablets of stone, but written on our hearts. (Jer 31:31-34)

DID YOU KNOW THIS? This is incredibly awesome!

Understand: The law is within, on a new heart.

Understand: The Law and the Holy Spirit within changes us, causing us to love God and others.

UNDERSTAND: We no longer ‘have’ to do what God says, BUT we ‘want’ to do what God tells us to do!

LISTEN…

How is the law and the Spirit within changing me?

Do I really want to do what God tells me?

Or, am I still under the law, feeling like I ‘have’ to do what God says?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

We’ll finish up tomorrow.

For Now Let’s Call it a Day!

So much to think about.

Ponder all the Lord is teaching you.

Let these powerful Truths sink down deep.

Let His Truth set you free, and comfort you, bringing encouragement and security to you today!

Pour your heart out to your Loving Father! He is listening.

Journal Your Discovery

As we close for the day remember, take a minute to put the definitions and Cross References not only in your Notes but also in your hardbound Bibles next to these verses.

Turn What We LEARNED into Prayer

Perhaps…

GRACIOUS FATHER GOD, we bow before You, praising You for who You are and what You have done for each one of us. Oh Father, as we consider You will judge those of us who dare to judge and be partial by Your law of liberty, help us to soak in these Truths about Your Word! We are so grateful for the law of liberty, Your Word of Truth, the gospel for salvation, and that when we know it, it truly makes us free!  Thank you that the more Truth we know, we can continue to be set free. Oh Father, how wonderful that now Your Spirit and Your perfect law are within, those of us who have believed and surrendered our lives to You, Lord Jesus. Thank you Holy Spirit for empowering us to love and serve others, desiring to obey the royal law, not because we have to, but because we want to! Help us Lord to love as You have loved us! To be more and more like You Lord Jesus, in whose name we pray! Amen!

Next: We continue to examine God’s judgment of partiality!
