It is sad, and we don’t like to admit it, but in Christ’s Church we tend to be very partial to certain people. We are impressed with a person’s: education and the degree after their name; profession, job, and fame; economic status and bank account; social status and reputation; the kind of car one drives; their wardrobe and jewelry, and the list can go on. James, who wanted his readers to be ‘doers of the Word’, gives us another simple test. He presents a hypothetical scenereo with 2 visitors coming into the assembly, and sharing how they were treated. Let’s take a LOOK.

Last WEEK

We summed up James Chapter 1, that revealed several tests to prove that a person’s faith is genuine.

The first test was how a person responds to trials,

The second was how one responds to temptation, and

The third test was how a person responds to the Word of God.

This WEEK

We will begin to LOOK at Chapter 2, specifically v1-13, another simple test.

Today

We will zoom in on these verses to see what God says.

Why Did James Write This Letter?

As you work through your discovery this week, keep James’ purpose in the back of your mind.

Before We Begin, Let’s Pray

LORD, we come to You asking that this not be another ritual, or empty exercise, but we come to You through Your power Holy Spirit to encounter You Lord God and sense Your presence and be moved. Teach us Your Truths. Give us ears to hear, and give us the understanding we need! For Your glory and for our good! Thank you!

#8. Ch 2, As you consider a doer of the Word, you see the next test, how are the brethren who hold their faith in Jesus to treat others? Describe the poor and the rich. Why is partiality wrong? What does the Word say to do, CR? (v1-13)

Now, what will you want to concentrate on to help you stay focused?

Let’s LOOK at What God Says About:

How We are to Treat Others

and

Showing Partiality

Okay dear ones,

I am going to let you take it from here.

Don’t panic, you can do this!

We have spent weeks becoming familiar with certain skills to help us LOOK at what God says, letting GODcha lead us.

So today go for it!

Find your quiet place and enjoy your time with Jesus

My prayer is that you will experience Him in a new way today!

We will meet back up tomorrow to see what He taught all of us.

Ponder What God Shows You

Don’t Forget to Record Your Discovery in Your Notes

You know I thought yesterday

how I used to have notes everywhere…

notes from a church sermon on a bulletin;

notes for a study in a notebook;

notes of quiet times in a journal; etc.

But now I keep them all in one place,

And I go back over them again and again to bury God’s Word down deep and refresh my memory, so I won’t forget.

I love it!

Close Your Time With the Lord in Prayer

Next: we will join together to see what we all discovered.
