Unlock the Meaning of the Text

Let’s unlock double-minded!

To Understand Double-minded

 Consider the Meaning

Dictionary Tutorial >

Double-minded, dípsucho; referring to the doubter or waverer which corresponds to diakrínō, doubt.

Such a person suffers from divided loyalties.

On the one hand, he wishes to maintain a religious confession and desires the presence of God in his life; on the other hand, he loves the ways of the world and prefers to live according to its mores and ethics.

TIP: Remember to take what you have learned back to the text, to see what it means in its context.

8 “being a double-minded man, [one with divided loyalties, between God and the world] is unstable in all his ways.”

LISTEN…

What is the Spirit asking?

Are my loyalties divided between God and the world?

Do I desire the presence of God in my life, but love the ways of the world and prefer to live according to its practices and principles?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

Truth Explains Truth About

Double-minded

Remember: THINK and REASON

by asking the 5W’s and H questions.

What do you LEARN about being a double-minded man?

a. The Lord will judge those who speak falsehood to one another; With flattering lips and with a double heart (double loyalties between God and the world) they speak. (Psa 12:2-3)

LISTEN…

Am I double-minded, with a double heart?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

b. I hate those who are double-minded, But I love Your law. (Psa 119:113)

LISTEN…

Am I committed to God, loving His law?

Or, are my loyalties divided between God and the world?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

c. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (Jam 4:8)

THINK: God calls us to be single minded, loving Him with all our hearts!

LISTEN…

If I am double-minded, do I realize I am a sinner in need of cleansing and purification?

What am I willing to do if I am a habitual doubter, double-minded, and unstable?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

What Did We LEARN?

Let’s Sum Up Yesterday and Today!

We LEARN:

A Doubter is a continuously divided mind torn in 2 different directions.

Divided between:

Life or Death

The Lord or Other gods

God or Baal

God or Wealth

The Lord or Demons

Being Hot or Cold

We LEARN:

A Doubter is:

Tossed to and fro like the surf of the sea

Cannot expect to receive anything from the Lord.

There is a hatred towards the Double-minded.

We LEARN:

The Double-minded:

Are unstable;

Going back and forth with divided loyalties to God;

Are referred to as sinners.

But

The Double-minded:

can draw near to God

cleanse their hands, and

purify their double hearts.

GODcha has us consider what is being contrasted.

Do you see?

Faith

is contrasted

to Doubting;

to being Double-minded!

As we LOOK at God’s Word ACCURATELY,

Who has faith?

Understand: Believers have FAITH.

Who is a doubter, double-minded?

Understand: Sinners, who need to be cleansed and purified.

Oh, are you beginning to understand how to LOOK at what God says and then to LEARN what He means?

Are you amazed at what He has taught you today?

Don’t you love hearing His voice?

That’s a Wrap for James 1:5-8

Ponder on all He has shown you in His Word through His Spirit about being a habitual doubter and double-minded!

I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways,” (Psalm 119:15).

Are you strong in your faith?

Or, do you have a double heart?

God wants you to call to Him.

Don’t wait until tomorrow, it may never come.

Engage with God!

Let’s Close in Prayer

Perhaps…

OUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN, thank you for Your Word that is inherent and powerful! Thank you that it reveals to us Your heart and mind. Today, may we be willing to examine ourselves, and be willing to admit and confess if we are habitual doubters, double-minded and unstable. May we cleanse our hands and purify our hearts, (Jam 4:8). Oh Father, again I would ask that You renew our minds with Your Truths, and give us the unwavering confidence that You are there to help us. Encourage us not to grow weary in our trials, and to calm our fears. May we follow You, joyfully, no matter what. In Jesus name we ask these things. Amen.

We are honored that you are walking through this discovery. We continue to pray for you, and thank you for wanting to know God.

Next: we will begin to unfold the next paragraphJames 1:9-12.
