Do You Remember Why James Wrote This Letter?

To command believers, those of the faith, to be doers of the Word of God, not just hearers,

Explaining that faith without works is dead, useless, because it cannot save you.

Thus, hoping to turn a sinner from the error of his ways so his soul will be saved from death.

Before We Begin, Let’s Pray

Oh Lord, as we come to Your Word today to bring everything together, please show us our hearts, and see if there be anything that would hinder us from hearing You. May we confess and repent, and move on to hear what You are saying.  Grant us understanding and help us walk away in such a way that we will live in the light of these mighty Truths. Thank you!

We LOOKED at James 3:13-18

We have been letting GODcha take us directly to God’s Word,

teaching us how to use certain skills

to see what God has to say about

His Wisdom versus ‘Earthly Wisdom‘.

So now, let’s take all that God has taught us and connect the dots to bring it all together.

To refresh your mind and put everything into CONTEXT what will you do?

Read God’s Word

Read Chapter 1 and 2, and Chapter 3:1-12 to remember the CONTEXT.

Are you amazed at how much of James letter God has cemented in your memory as a result of reading and re-reading.

Don’t you have a lot of it memorized, and you didn’t even try to memorize it?

Oh, so amazing!

b. Describe the wisdom from above and it’s results, CR.

Try to Answer on your own.

And then we will Answer together.

Keep in mind James’ purpose in writing this letter.

To Answer, Let’s Sum Up

What We Discovered

We LEARN:

Who is wise and understanding means:

-Wise [is applying the knowledge of God to our lives], and

-Understanding [is the knowledge of God]?

The Wise:

Show the power and the Word of God in their lives.

Live like Christ!

We LEARN:

True Wisdom That Comes From Above

The Source Is:

God – wisdom and power belong to God.

Jesus – has been made wisdom to those who believe.

The Holy Spirit – is the Spirit of wisdom, teaching us wisdom.

God Gives Wisdom to Those:

Who Fear Him and Know Him

Who Come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus is our wisdom from God who takes up residence within us.

Thus, God’s Word is our source of wisdom.

The Holy Spirit teaches us God’s wisdom.

Whenever we lack wisdom, all we need to do is ask for it.

God’s Wisdom is Seen:

In one’s good behavior;

In one’s deeds;

In the gentleness of wisdom.

God’s Wisdom is:

First pure;

Then,

gentle,

reasonable,

peaceable,

full of mercy and good fruits,

unwavering,

without hypocrisy.

The Results:

The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace, by those who make peace.

We LEARN:

 Wisdom NOT From God

The Source Is:

Earthly – worldly

Natural – fleshly

Demonic – of Satan

Those Who are NOT Wise and Understanding:

Don’t fear God.

Don’t know God.

Don’t obey God.

The Conduct of Earthly Wisdom is:

Bitter Jealousy

Selfishly Ambitious

Arrogant

Lie Against the Truth

The Results:

Disorder and Every Evil Thing

HEAR God Speak

LISTEN…

#11 What kind of wisdom do I show?

a. What is my behavior, deeds? Do I exhibit gentleness of wisdom?

b. Do I have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in my heart? Is disorder (commotion and confusion) the result?

c. Am I a peacemaker; gentle; reasonable (compliant, teachable); full of mercy and good fruits; unwavering without hypocrisy?

d. How am I acquiring wisdom from above, and applying it to: my trials; the way I treat others; and my speech and tongue?

Respond to God . . .LIVE it out!

Oh my goodness, have you had eyes to see and ears to hear?

Has the Spirit convicted you in any way, as He has me?

Chapter 3 gives us a couple of the tests that prove the reality of our faith.

1) Do we have God’s wisdom?

2) Do we use our tongue wisely?

Can you and I pass the test?

Okay, One Last Thing to Do

To Wrap Up Chapter 3, GODcha directs us to Summarize the Chapter.

You should know by now this helps you grasp and process what you have LEARNED, cementing this Chapter down deep into your heart and you will remember it.

Come on try it, you will be so glad you did!

1.Read all of James 3:1-18.

To refresh your minds and remember the main topics or what was  Key in these 2 paragraphs.

Keep in mind each test that proves our faith?

2. When you go through this process,

Thinking and reasoning God’s Truths,

Then God is able to seal Truth into your memory!

3. Now to Summarize.

Keep the summary to 4-6 Words or less if possible.

Why? Because it will be easier to remember.

4. DO NOT paraphrase!

Use the Words God uses.

(Paraphrasing can change the meaning.  And, we want to know and bury God’s Word, that has the power, into our heads and hearts.)

This Chapter is not hard at all.

Try it on your own before you go any further.

I will help you after you give it a shot!

You can do this!

I know you can!

How would you Summarize Chapter 3?

What about: Tongue/Wisdom

Perfect!

Chapter 3 is a Wrap!

Turn What We LEARNED into Prayer

Perhaps. . .

OH LOVING FATHER GOD, we bless You and Praise You, and continue to thank you for all You are revealing to us in Your Word through James. GLORIOUS LORD JESUS CHRIST, MASTER and REDEEMER, we are so grateful that You have been made wisdom to those of us who believe and reside within us. Oh, thank you Holy Spirit for teaching us. For leading and guiding us into these marvelous Truths about the tongue, and the wisdom of this world versus the wisdom of God. I pray we have had ears to hear and truly be willing to admit what we need to work on. Oh Father, thank you for Your reproof and correction. We repent, and confess the many times we have stumbled, not being wise with our words, hurting others and causing discord and division! Cleanse our hearts for being self-centered rather than God-centered. Oh, forgive us Lord! Once again we are so thankful for Your promise that if and when we confess our sins to You, You are faithful and righteous to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, (1Jo 1:9). We are ever so grateful that You have opened the way for all of us to be wise and understanding.  May we be very careful to not walk as fools who are unwise, but as wise. You have sealed us with Your Holy Spirit, the Spirit of wisdom, our teacher and the One who gives us the divine power to control our tongues, and the ability to bear fruit of righteousness sown in peace.  Help us to be sensitive to You, Holy Spirit, making every effort to show our good behavior by our deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. May we choose to speak sweet water to our hearers. Let the fruit of our lips be gracious and seasoned with salt. Oh, may we be doers of Your Word, honoring and glorifying You in all we say and do. We ask this in our Lord’s holy name. Amen!

I am so proud of you, for you are doing the one thing that is necessary, learning to sit at the feet of Jesus, in His presence, listening to what He has to say to you personally through His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit!  I thank God you have been willing!

Rest and worship the Lord!
