Understand the Words God Uses

 Check Out the Meaning

Dictionary Tutorial >

Endurance, hupomoneâ; patience, patient continuance (waiting). To persevere, remain under. A bearing up under as to things or circumstances. Generally meaning endurance, patience, perseverance or constancy under suffering in faith and duty.

THINK about these adjectives from Webster’s Dictionary:

stamina,

staying power,

fortitude,

persistence,

tenacity,

doggedness,

grit,

resolution,

determination.

TIP: Remember to take the meaning back to the text.

knowing [understand; comprehend] the testing [the proof] of your faith [conviction, commitment, conduct] produces endurance [patience, perseverance, a remaining under my circumstances].”

Understand:

We need to know, comprehend, understand, God is at work, He is doing something!

With each trial, that work is to produce endurance, perseverance, strength, stamina, grit, determination!

LISTEN…

What do I know about God that helps me through my trials?

What is coming forth from my trials?

Is endurance [the perseverance] being produced through my trial right now?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

God Uses Truth to Explain Truth About

 Endurance

Try it on your own again.

THINK and REASON, asking the 5W’s and H.

How did you do?

Let’s LOOK at ‘endurance’ together.

1. What does Matthew say about endurance?

How do you know those who are saved?

The one who endures to the end, he will be saved. (Mat 24:13)

NOTE: this is in the  context of the end times and the signs of Christ’s coming.

In the end there will be a terrible apostasy, desertion, by those who are in the church, they will run. But there will be those who stay, endure to the end.

Understand: the mark of those who are truly saved is endurance!

2. In John, who does Jesus say is truly His disciple?

Those who continue in His word, [have the stamina, the fortitude, the persistence] are truly His disciples. (Joh 8:31)

NOTE: this is in the context of knowing Truth to be set free.

UNDERSTAND:

Continue means to endure, remain.

What is one to continue to do in His Word?

Continue to be ‘in’ His Word and ‘do’ His Word.

Continue ‘in obedience’ to His Word.

Understand: the mark of a true disciple is one who continues, endures in obedience to the Word of God.

3. Who does Hebrews say are really partakers of Christ?

We have become partakers of Christ [believers], if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end. (Heb 3:14)

NOTE: this is in the context of unbelief and hard hearts.

UNDERSTAND:

Hold fast means to retain. To hold fast in one’s mind and heart.

Understand: It’s not enough to say we believe.

If we are real we will hold fast to our assurance, our confidence, meaning we endure, persevere in our faith.

Understand: Unbelieving hard hearts want more and more proof.

When they can’t take the pressure, the persecution, or they want to stay in their sin, they walk away, they are not holding fast, continuing, enduring.

4. What do you learn from 1st John about those who are not of us (meaning believers)?

There are those who will NOT remain, for they are not of us. (1Jo 2:19)

NOTE: this is in the context of antichrists.

We see: Those who remain will not abandon the Truth for a lie.

Understand: If you don’t continue, hold fast and remain, then you are NOT enduring and persevering.

Hear God!

LISTEN…

What am I doing to endure, to continue in His Word, and hold fast?

Or, have I thrown my hands up and no longer remain with God?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

What Did We LEARN

Lets Sum It Up!

We LEARNED:

We must know the trial that tests our faith produces endurance!

Through the trial we continue in His Word and hold fast to our assurance.

The one who endures to the end shall be saved.

Those who do NOT remain, who have gone out from us, never were of us.

Engage With God

LISTEN…

Is tenacity, grit, determination being produced in me to hold on under pressure no matter what

With every trial, am I gaining a little bit more endurance?

Or, am I fighting God, shaking my fist at God, walking away, not willing to remain with Him, or Christ?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

That’s It For Today!

Turn What You Have LEARNED into a Prayer

Perhaps…..

OH MERCIFUL FATHER GOD, I think of the issues of life that we all face, and I am thinking of a dear friend today who has finished her race, entered Your House, receiving her Crown of Righteousness – that joyful blessing You have commanded us to consider. I am also thinking of the unimaginable heartache her family is enduring at this time, and how hers and their faith is proving to be real. Thus, You are being glorified through their trial.

Help us to understand that You are producing endurance in each one of us. May we remember that in each trial You are bringing forth a strength, a perseverance, a tenacity, a patience in us. Oh Father, help each of us grow through our trials. Please help each of us to carve out time daily to be in Your Word, to know it and stand on it, in order to endure in obedience and hold fast until the end.  Oh, let these Truths sink down deep and take root in our lives. We ask these things in Jesus name. Amen!
